SQprobe®

High performance virtualized software probe
for Voice and Video over IP

Service performance from a shared perspective.

Counting lost packets doesn't tell you whether end users are happy or frustrated. SQprobe analyzes and reports on the quality of every voice and video call from the user's point of view.

  • Analyzes videoconferencing session quality for Microsoft Teams, Zoom, WebEx, Google Meet and other widely used online collaboration tools
  • Accurate, immediate QoE scores including Voice, Video and Audio MOS
  • Real-time alerts via SQmediator if QoE/service level thresholds are exceeded
  • Supports the broadest range of voice, video and audio codecs

A wealth of information from a single solution.

Get the critical information needed to manage and troubleshoot IP multimedia applications and services in real time, from one affordable application.

  • Analyzes media quality, call signaling and network performance
  • Voice and video metrics, analytics, KPIs and QoE scores
  • Real-time capture of VoIP & Videoconferencing sessions matching specified IPs, phone numbers, SIP URIs or VLANs
  • Signal and noise level measurements for G.711 and G.729A encoded VoIP traffic

Network traffic is growing. Be ready.

As networks grow in complexity and scale, so does the task of ensuring the performance of critical data and real-time communications.

SQprobe scales from 5 Mbps to 10+ Gbps capacity, based on available CPU resources and configured capacity limits. Specially designed for high performance in multicore architectures, SQprobe can process 1-2 million packets per second per core.

  • Scales to 10+ GigE monitoring interface
  • Monitor from 5 to > 50,000 calls simultaneously
  • Less expensive per MB / per call than other probes
  • Supports IPv4, IPv6, Stacked VLANs (Q, QinQ, QinQinQ), VXLAN encapsulation/tunneling

Solutions should mean choices, not chains.

Traditional hardware probes tie you to one vendor's platform. When capacity needs grow, upgrading often means replacing costly hardware.

SQprobe is a pure software application that can be deployed in virtualized environments or on inexpensive server hardware. To scale capacity, SQprobe can simply be reconfigured or redeployed on a faster server.

A software solution that thrives in the Cloud.

Network functions virtualization and software-defined networking are quickly transforming the network paradigm, and conventional hardware probes are poorly suited for use in these new, dynamic network environments.

SQprobe is a Pure Software Probe® that runs on a wide range of Cloud, virtual data center and COTS hardware platforms. It analyzes mirrored traffic tunneled using VXLAN encapsulation, making it ideally suited for Cloud deployment.

Let SQprobe read between the lines.

VoIP and videoconferencing sessions are often encrypted for security and privacy. Because the content is obscured, measuring the quality of encrypted media can be a significant challenge.

SQprobe is uniquely designed to analyze encrypted media without decryption, making it the clear choice for managing the performance of secure communications and protected media content.

  • Analyzes encrypted VoIP and videoconferencing streams transported over Secure RTP
  • Analyzes Zoom and Microsoft Teams VoIP and Videoconferencing traffic

VoIP & Videoconferencing

SQprobe analyzes the quality of live VoIP and videoconferencing calls in real time, producing detailed analytics including QoE scores (Voice and Video MOS), decoded SIP signaling information and an extensive set of diagnostic metrics for every call. Built for ultra high performance, SQprobe can monitor up to thousands of VoIP calls and multiple HD video sessions, even when voice and video streams are encrypted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question that isn't listed here? Click here to submit it to us.

What is SQprobe?
SQprobe is an advanced software application that enables you to monitor and analyze the quality of IP-based voice and video services on your network. It works by passively capturing network packets at high speed and extracting relevant QoE and performance data for each VoIP call and videoconferencing session.
How can I use SQprobe to monitor the quality and performance of my IP services?
With SQprobe, you can get a complete picture of how your voice, video and audiovisual services are performing on your network. SQprobe provides metrics such as Mean Opinion Scores (MOS) for user satisfaction, packet loss, jitter and delay for network efficiency, SIP signaling for call setup and more. For a full list of performance metrics, please contact us.
How can I access the metrics collected by SQprobe?
SQprobe sends reports to Telchemy's SQmediator, a robust performance management solution that supports both passive monitoring and active testing. SQmediator aggregates, analyzes and presents quality reports from SQprobe, enabling you to visualize, troubleshoot and optimize your IP services.
What are the hardware requirements for SQprobe?
SQprobe is a versatile software application that can run on any standard Linux server hardware or as a virtual application on a Linux VM. You don't need any special or vendor-specific hardware to use SQprobe.
How does SQprobe monitor network quality without slowing it down?
SQprobe is a passive monitoring solution that does not interfere with network traffic or performance. It uses advanced algorithms to analyze the quality of VoIP, videoconferencing and network data in real time. SQprobe quality reports are very small (less than 4 Kbytes) and have a minimal impact on bandwidth usage.
What is the maximum number of calls that SQprobe can monitor simultaneously?
The number of calls that SQprobe can monitor depends on the system configuration and the call types. It can process from 5 Mbps to 10+ Gbps of call traffic, depending on the product license and the available resources such as CPU cores. For instance, SQprobe can support from 100 concurrent G.711 calls on a single core ARM/MIPS platform, up to 50,000 calls on zero copy NIC hardware with 8-16 CPU cores. For more information on specific environments, please contact us.
Can SQprobe be used to run tests?
SQprobe is a passive probe that monitors the performance of live voice and video calls and data sessions. To perform active tests for proactive monitoring and troubleshooting, you can use Telchemy's DVQattest distributed software test agents. SQprobe and DVQattest Agents work seamlessly with SQmediator to deliver both passive and active monitoring.
Is is easy to set up SQprobe?
Yes. You should have some basic knowledge of Linux shell commands, but you don't need to be an expert. The installation guide will help you install and configure the software step by step.
Where should I deploy SQprobe in my network?
You typically connect SQprobe to the SPAN/mirror port of an Ethernet switch that carries the voice, audio and video traffic that you want to SQprobe. If you need assistance with choosing the best location for SQprobe in your network, Telchemy can provide you with guidance.
Do I need to install new software if I want more features later?
No. You can easily upgrade or change SQprobe's features and capacity limits by applying a new license key.
